choosing the right BaNgS for your face shape

It’s crazy how a few snips in that fringe area can give you a whole new look, even on an existing haircut! But, as effortless they look, bangs require a little more effort when styling it so allow yourself five more minutes to tweak those around when you’re getting ready.

Here are our recommended choices of bang styles to go with each face shape.

Remember, the ideal face shape is OVAL, so our goal is to make every face shape look oval because of the way it is cut and styled.

1. OVAL FACE SHAPE
Good news for the oval faces out there….you can pretty much pull off any style of bangs! Play around with different bang styles as long as they compliment your existing haircut (or new!) well.

2. HEART FACE SHAPE
Heart face shapes are complimented best by either long layers that frame the face or straight across but notched bangs. Heart shape is prominent in the forehead, so the goal is to cover most or some of that up.

3. SQUARE FACE SHAPE
Square face shapes should avoid center parted bangs and super-blunt bangs. The most flattering bangs on short hair will be a side swept bang and on long hair, a slightly uneven forehead fringe. Super sharp lines will emphasize the sharp angles in the jaw line and look box-like.

4. ROUND FACE SHAPE

To off-set the roundness of the face, we choose a wispy, side swept bang. You typically don’t want to have a super short bang because it will emphasize the roundness by making your face appear shorter.
5. OBLONG FACE SHAPE
Bangs will help giving the illusion of shortening the face, so you definitely will want them! When choosing a bang style, be mindful of your hair length. If your hair is short, go with a more side swept bang. With long hair, go with a straight across bang that will cover most of the forehead to help shorten the length of the face.

!!!TREND ALERT!!!

A “NO, i’m not wearing my hair like that, that looks silly.” kind of hair style….at first. But now, we are guilty and wearing it ourselves (Oops!) “The Hun” – its so called name but it technically is a half up, half down bun.

But we love it as a simple, cute, effortless look. Jazz it up of course with a statement outfit or dramatic makeup so you don’t look like you just rolled out of bed like this. A video to show you how we created this look will be uploaded soon! Grab an elastic band, a few bobby pins and a medium hairspray.

Some of us at Mod rockin’ it.

This trend has been around though…..so as they always say, “What goes around, comes back around.” Right, Gene?

You’re enjoying summer, but it’s taking a toll on your hair…….. :(

We know how amazing spending time outside in the sun and around the pool is during the summer months. We’re all persistent to protect our skin from  UVA and UVB rays, but often forget to give the same attention to our hair. No, hair can’t get sunburn, but the sun can cause discoloration, dry & brittle ends, split-ends, frizziness,  not a hold a style or curl very well due to the dryness.

The sun rays and hair lightener act in similar ways, a chemical reaction happens. The rays react the with melanin in hair and irreversibly removes the color, which in result, starts to break down the keratin protein (70% of our hair strands are made up of keratin protein!) and rough up the cuticle (outer) layer.

Chlorine is a disinfectant. Disinfectants are used to remove and break down dirt, oil, and bacteria. Our scalps naturally produce oil to protect our hair from damage and daily wear. Stripping the oil from your hair in a pool on a regular basis can cause over drying, increased porosity, and in some cases pretty significant damage if you don’t take steps to prevent and treat your hair for chlorine exposure. The Mod must after being in chlorine is to rinse well with warm water, shampoo with a clarifying shampoo and heavily condition.

We recommend coming into Mod for the Surface Summer Hair Repair reconstructing treatment. It contains the a clarifying, but gentle, shampoo with a killer scalp massage, Trinity One Shot, a tube infused with high amounts of silk protein, followed by the Bassu Masque for super hydration and finishing it off with Bassu Oil for great shine and heat protectant. After shampooing and applying all these products, they are blown dry into the hair for maximum repair. You won’t believe the instant softness, hydration and life you get from this simple regimen. And BEST news yet, you can take all of these products home and never have dull, dry hair again!
